Preparing for Papa

ThPopee excitement in our home about the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI in the US is growing daily.  He arrives in Washington D.C. this evening and we will spend the rest of the week watching him, listening to him, praying for him, and celebrating with great joy the fact that our shepherd is so near.

Here are plans for the week:

TUESDAY

  • Prayer: Memorare novena for the Pope's safety
  • Popcorn and soda to watch His Holiness' arrival (EWTN's coverage schedule)
  • Craft: rocks painted with the papal cross and "on this rock I will build my church"inscribed on he back
  • In the book basket:  The White House

                                        Joseph and Chico

WEDNESDAY

  • Prayer: rosary for our nation's leaders
  • German food for dinner :

                          German Beef Rouladen

                         German Potato Salad

                        And this cake for mom's birthday!

THURSDAY

  • Prayer: Divine Mercy Chaplet for US bishops and clergy 
  • Tea time treats: cupcakes with red frosting and seashell decoration to reflect Benedict XVI's coat of arms
  • craft: wee felt Benedicts (the Pope and the saint)
  • In the book basket: the life of St. Benedict from Loyola Kid's Book of Saints
  • Logo_ratzinger
  • FRIDAY
  • Prayer: Mass offered for the Pope's intentions

In the book basket: E is for Empire: A New York Alphabet

Dinner: New York Spiedies and Syracuse Salt Potatoes

SATURDAY

Prayer: Rosary forYouth

Tea Time: New York Cheesecake while we watch the youth rally

In the book basket: On That Day: A Book of Hope for Children

SUNDAY

Prayer: Mass offered in thanksgiving for Benedict XVI

Dinner: We'll bid farewell to the Papa with pizza!

In the book basket: Italy A, B, Cs

Family Fun: The Catholic Catechism game

We hope you enjoy the Papa's visit as much as we plan to!
